Joomla! includes features such as page caching to improve performance, RSS feeds, printable versions of pages, news flashes, blogs, polls, website searching, and language internationalization. Joomla! is licensed under the GPL, and is the result of a fork of Mambo.
It is written with the PHP programming language and uses the MySQL database.

New Joomla! 1.5*
It is with great pride that the Joomla! community announces to the world the immediate availability of Joomla! 1.5 Stable [Khepri].
As an application, Joomla! 1.5 boasts remarkable advances over Joomla! 1.0 in the areas of extensibility, usability and internationalization. Building extensions is vastly easier and faster because of the comprehensive new API. The simplified user interface eliminates unnecessary clicks and context changes for site administrators and managers. Support for extended character sets, right to left languages, and translation of all static text in the front end and the administrator allows enhanced internationalization and worldwide use. New options for use of layout overrides and template parameters give designers total control over the look and feel of sites. |
FWS™ & Joomla!
FWS™ offers support and advise on the use and implementation of the Joomla! CMS.
Our advise is based on the use of Joomla! v.1.0.13 on Windows platforms (XP/ Win2003). For this you need to have PHP (4.* or 5.*), a MySql (4.*/ 5.*) database, IIS webserver (v.5 or 6) (or Apache) running on your computer.
At http://test.dotnetnukes.com you will find a working Joomla! demonstration website (v.1.0.13) as part of Fws™ Dotnetnukes web. |
Installation notes: - version 1.5 RC3 did not work on Windows XP/ SP2 php 5 MySql 5 - version 1.3 runs ok on Windows XP/ SP2 php 5 MySql 5
First impression: - compared to DotNetNuke it's more complex to add/change menuoptions/ pages - less preinstalled options (forum, gallery etc.) - look & feel of basic install looks a bit more refined than with DNN - less userfriendly, learning curve more steep - more compatible with full (open source) LAMP installations
