Although with his usual wit and chagrin for the lack of recognition for the best .Net CMS in the world the DotNetNuke overlord Shaun Walker pointed out it's relevance as early as 2006 (needless to say DNN has always been the nr. 1. frontrunner) not many communitymembers must have put in their vote since there's no mention of winning any prizes....

Old Blog on Packt Open Source Content Management System Award
Posted by: Shaun Walker, 8/1/2006
Last week Packt Publishing announced an Open Source Content Management System contest. The contest is designed to encourage, support, recognize and reward Open Source Content Management Systems and offers a top prize of US$5000 to the winning project, second prize $3000, and third prize $2000.
The award demonstrates Packt's commitment to the open source community and its users. Packt has a long and successful history of publishing user-friendly technical books for software users. They were the first publisher to release a full length book on DotNetNuke ( authored by Daniel Egan ). The Judges will be choosing from the five Content Management Systems that receive the most nominations, during the nomination stage ( from now until September 1, 2006 ). They will be selecting their top three based on a number of factors including performance, usability, accessibility, ease of configuration and customization, scalability and security.
I hate to reference my previous blog on "No Respect For Windows Open Source" but considering the judging panel of Scott Goodwin from The Open Source Collective, Lenz Grimmer from mySQL, and Nathan Gervais from Eclipse, I do not see a whole lot of Microsoft platform support from this group. However there is nothing in the contest rules which indicate that an open source CMS needs to run on the Linux platform to participate. And given our recent stats on SourceForge.Net where we consistently rank higher than all other LAMP CMS systems, I think it is worthwhile for our community to get some well deserved recognition.
So this is a general call for all DotNetNuke supporters to please submit your project nominations so that we can at least be included in the list of the top five Open Source Content Management Systems in the world.
